Job Summary

Manage your own caseload to progress legacy, abuse, military and corporate risks cost matters from receipt of papers through to settlement. Proactively review cases, set strategy and settlement parameters, prepare points of dispute, and negotiate costs via telephone while coordinating with insurers. Provide client updates, support performance targets and SLAs/KPIs, and ensure compliance with SRA Standards & Regulations.

Key Responsibilities

•Progress your own caseload from receipt of papers to resolution of costs for multiple risk teams.
•Proactively review cases to formulate an initial costs strategy and settlement parameters.
•Prepare points of dispute and consider replies, identifying strengths and weaknesses of your case and the opponent’s costs claimed.
•Use the telephone to put forward arguments and negotiate settlement of costs within agreed parameters.
•Update clients on progress, handle correspondence within SLAs, and attend court/hearings/mediations (remotely and in person) as required.

Key Requirements

•12 months minimum experience as a costs negotiator handling your own caseload (claimant or defendant).
•A degree and/or LPC and/or ALCD.
•Experience providing client liaison through taking instructions and giving advice verbally and in writing.
•Experience of the Detailed Assessment process, including preparing Points of Dispute and considering replies.
•Good telephone negotiation skills with an understanding of current costs case law and insurance litigation practice.
