Job Summary

Lead the Cable design function for WSP’s Energy Networks portfolio, serving as technical authority for safe, compliant, high-quality cable transmission engineering. Provide strategic direction and technical support across design packages (Basic & Detailed), oversee project phases from concept to commissioning, and drive governance, quality assurance, and risk management. Manage and develop a team of engineers and collaborate with HV Plant, Civil, OHL, P&C, DNO, and project management stakeholders, as well as clients and regulators.

Key Responsibilities

•Lead and develop the Cable design function, providing technical authority for cable design solutions.
•Define technical standards, best practices, and long-term capability requirements, promoting safety-by-design and compliance.
•Set direction for cable design including Basic and Detailed design packages, and approve deliverables for integrity, constructability, and compliance.
•Provide technical oversight across project phases (concept, FEED, detailed design, construction, commissioning) and drive consistency, quality, and risk management.
•Build, lead, and mentor the cable design team; engage with clients, regulators, partners, and external design houses/suppliers/contractors.

Key Requirements

•Senior-level experience in cable design and leadership within UK Transmission sectors.
•Strong expertise in cable engineering systems.
•Experience using Cymcap and cable design software (e.g., cableizer), with exposure to AutoCAD and drawing packages.
•In-depth understanding of UK utility technical standards, grid codes, and regulatory frameworks.
•Minimum BEng in Electrical Engineering, with Chartered Engineer (CEng, IET) or working towards chartership.
