Job Summary

Lead the data lifecycle and infrastructure powering NPR’s audience-facing digital products. Design and scale real-time, event-driven data systems for personalization, and build self-service frameworks (APIs, governance) so engineering, analytics, and marketing can activate data independently. Set modern architecture standards (including medallion patterns), provide technical direction across teams, drive code/design quality, and support CI/CD, deployments, and production incident troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities

•Design, optimize, and scale real-time data ecosystems and event-driven pipelines for personalized audience experiences.
•Create self-service infrastructure (frameworks, governance, and APIs) enabling teams to autonomously use data and personalization tools.
•Evaluate emerging technologies and drive adoption of modern architecture standards, including medallion architecture and orchestration frameworks.
•Provide technical direction and cross-divisional governance for complex, high-impact engineering projects.
•Support production excellence through deployments, CI/CD best practices, incident troubleshooting, and participation in the on-call rotation.

Key Requirements

•5+ years designing and leading solutioning and architecture planning across multi-team environments.
•5+ years designing scalable, reliable, cost-efficient systems as a first-class concern.
•5+ years with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP) and infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform).
•Experience building cross-platform applications (web, mobile, voice) with modern languages/frameworks and integrating with external APIs/services.
•Fluent in Node/TypeScript and Python, with experience in real-time integrations, data governance, and data privacy/compliance (GDPR, CPPA).
