Key Responsibilities

  • •Lead the implementation of major projects, plan task breakdown, and keep engineers in sync using strong communication and architectural diagrams
  • •Deliver sharing and permissions features across Canva’s product, including design experience, content management, and brand
  • •Propose innovative approaches to future-proof Canva's product decision platforms and deliver business outcomes
  • •Write design documents and run design meetings to shape improvements
  • •Provide guidance and mentorship to engineers to navigate technical challenges and develop professionally

Key Requirements

  • •Extensive experience developing distributed web applications with deep understanding of Java
  • •Proven track record planning and executing complex architectural changes with emphasis on problem-solving over framework reliance
  • •Excellent written and verbal communication, able to collaborate across stakeholders and engineers
  • •Experience mentoring and guiding engineering teams, unblocking technical challenges
  • •Strong fundamentals in concurrency, data structures, distributed systems, and resiliency techniques (load balancing, throttling, back pressure, circuit breaking); hands-on experience in large distributed cloud environments (AWS preferred) with Kubernetes and Terraform
