Key Responsibilities

  • •Set medium-to-long-term technical strategy across the bank’s core surfaces (cloud infrastructure, data platform, core banking configuration, CI/CD, networking, and Bank↔Affirm integration).
  • •Design, build, integrate, and operate the most ambiguous, highest-stakes stack components and own incident response for them.
  • •Set and hold engineering standards: code review, design review, and documentation patterns for a small team.
  • •Lead vendor evaluation, integration, and operational oversight across core banking, data, identity, observability, and card-processing stacks.
  • •Define and drive the integration boundary (domain edges, data flows, integration patterns) between the bank and Affirm Inc while preserving legal/regulatory separation.

Key Requirements

  • •8+ years of software engineering experience with staff-level, hands-on ownership of ambiguous, high-stakes systems end-to-end through launch and operations.
  • •Comfort owning ambiguity at the team’s largest scale, making tough prioritization decisions, and taking ownership before being asked.
  • •Fluent with AI-assisted development tools and agentic workflows, using them to improve code quality, velocity, and output for a lean team.
  • •Experience setting technical direction: define architecture and multi-quarter strategy beyond your own projects and lead execution across engineers/teams without a management title.
  • •Deep systems thinking across public cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), and cloud data platforms (Snowflake or comparable), including failure modes and tradeoffs.
