Job Summary

Supervise welding tradespeople and welding operators within the Maritime Sustainment team at Osborne Shipyard for afternoon and night shifts. Ensure welding plans, quality and technical standards, and compliance with welding procedures, SHE requirements, and non-destructive testing plans. Coordinate with Trade management, Welding Engineering, and Dimension Control to support manufacture of Hunter Class frigates, including managing work orders and leading root-cause analysis for defective welds.

Key Responsibilities

•Supervise welding tradespeople and welding operators to maintain performance, quality, and technical standards across the group.
•Follow welding plans, manuals, drawings, matrixes, control processes, and non-destructive testing plans for assigned activities.
•Ensure compliance with welding procedures to meet engineering design, stress analysis, and equipment specification requirements.
•Conduct root cause analysis of defective welds, review records/reports, develop weld repair strategies, and engage Welding Technical Authority for approval.
•Manage and maintain work orders and ensure compliance with the Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Management System to mitigate risks and improve SHE performance.

Key Requirements

•Qualified through International Institute of Welding as an International Welding Specialist (IWS) or hold welding supervisor certification to AS 1796 or AS 2214.
•Qualified through International Institute of Welding as an International Welding inspector (IWI-B or IWI-S) or hold welding inspection certification to another regulatory body (e.g., CSWIP).
•Experience supervising large complex engineering/construction products related to materials, fabrication, welding, and inspection/testing.
•Experience in automated, mechanised, orbital and robotic welding equipment would be highly regarded.
•Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with colleagues within and outside the immediate team, with a strong commitment to safe work practices.
