Job Summary

The Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Specialist provides face-to-face orientation and mobility services to eligible special education students with visual impairments in virtual public schools within the K12/Stride network. Contracted as an independent consultant (1099), the role collaborates with virtual school teams to develop IEP goals, teach travel skills, recommend assistive tech, and ensure compliance while traveling to sites across the US.

Key Responsibilities

•Provide in-person O&M assessments and direct services per IEP requirements.
•Communicate with parents, teachers, and students to develop consistent service schedules.
•Develop IEP goals relevant to the educational setting.
•Teach travel skills including sensory efficiency, cane techniques, orientation strategies, and environmental awareness.
•Provide training and guidance to families and staff.

Key Requirements

•Minimum 2 years of experience as an Orientation & Mobility Specialist.
•Valid state certification in Orientation & Mobility as required by the state department of education.
•Ability to travel for face-to-face O&M services.
•Experience supporting students in virtual settings.
•Familiarity with assistive technology used by students with visual impairments.
