Key Responsibilities

  • •Provide expert guidance on handling export-controlled commodities, material, software, technical data, and defense services under ITAR and EAR.
  • •Improve SpaceX’s export compliance program by drafting/updating policies and procedures, closing control gaps, and using technology tools (including AI).
  • •Partner with engineering teams on jurisdiction and classification determinations for rocket and satellite hardware, software, and technology.
  • •Manage export and sanctions licenses, license exceptions, and exemptions; engage with the Departments of State and Commerce on interpretations and authorizations.
  • •Lead non-compliance investigations, prepare investigation reports and corrective actions, and conduct internal compliance audits to improve policies and procedures.

Key Requirements

  • •JD from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • •3+ years of experience in a corporate legal department or law firm advising on U.S. federal regulatory matters, including export controls and sanctions.
  • •Must be admitted to the bar, in good standing, in at least one U.S. State.
  • •Up-to-date knowledge of U.S. export laws/regulations and U.S. economic sanctions.
  • •Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed; position is onsite in Washington, DC.
