Job Summary

Design and build highly scalable, resilient services for Wise’s global payment network within the Wise for Banks team. Lead Java/Spring Boot microservices and event-driven architectures using Kafka, and model complex financial domains with domain-driven design. Architect and optimize PostgreSQL-based systems for reliability and performance across partner integrations. Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and influence architecture reviews across Wise’s ecosystem of 700+ microservices.

Key Responsibilities

•Lead the design and development of scalable, resilient Java/Spring Boot services within Wise’s microservices architecture.
•Apply domain-driven design to model complex financial domains and build robust solutions for a growing partner ecosystem.
•Drive adoption of event-driven architectures using Kafka to ensure systems are reliable, observable, and scalable.
•Architect and optimize PostgreSQL relational database systems for performance, reliability, and data modelling across financial workflows.
•Provide technical leadership through architecture reviews, code reviews, and mentoring engineers across teams.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: GBP 111,000 - 145,000 annually

Key Requirements

•Extensive hands-on experience building backend systems in Java and Spring Boot in production environments.
•Strong experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems and microservices architectures.
•Proven experience building or operating event-driven systems using Kafka (or similar messaging platforms).
•Strong knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL, including schema design, query optimisation, and data integrity.
•Experience applying domain-driven design (DDD) to model complex domains and design scalable systems is a plus.
