Job Summary

Lead Canfor’s enterprise legal function as a key member of the leadership team, providing strategic and practical legal counsel to the Board, executives, and business leaders. Oversee complex commercial transactions (including M&A and joint ventures), manage legal and regulatory risk, and support corporate governance and board secretarial responsibilities. Also lead, coach, and develop the Legal team while partnering closely with internal stakeholders and external counsel.

Key Responsibilities

•Provide strategic legal counsel to the Board of Directors, executive leadership, and business leaders across Canfor and its subsidiaries.
•Lead Canfor’s legal strategy and identify, assess, and mitigate legal and regulatory risk across a complex, global organization.
•Oversee significant commercial transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic growth opportunities.
•Support corporate governance activities, including assisting as Assistant Corporate Secretary and overseeing disclosure and board/committee materials.
•Lead, coach, and develop the Legal team and provide hands-on leadership in deal execution and negotiation.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: 260,000 - 320,000 annually

Key Requirements

•Qualified lawyer with approximately 10+ years post-call experience.
•Experience in corporate/commercial law with a strong focus on transactions and deal work.
•Background in a publicly traded company or advising public company clients (strongly preferred).
•Experience in a resource-based industry (forestry, mining, oil & gas) (an asset).
•Combination of in-house and/or leading law firm experience supporting complex commercial matters.
