Job Summary

Build applied science initiatives to improve the acquisition, retention, and expansion of large, licensed professionals on the Thumbtack marketplace. Develop, deploy, and optimize machine learning models for supply shaping (acquisition, lead scoring, retention/churn, preference optimization, and marketplace matching/ranking). Design experiments, analyze marketplace and external data, and partner with engineering, product, business development, and marketing to ship and monitor ML systems in production.

Key Responsibilities

•Initiate and drive applied science initiatives to completion focused on improving acquisition, retention, and expansion of large professionals.
•Develop, deploy, and optimize machine learning models and algorithms for supply shaping and pro success problems, including lead scoring and churn prediction.
•Design and execute marketplace experiments to evaluate new models, features, and strategies on supply and business metrics.
•Analyze marketplace interactions, pro profiles, financial data, and external data to identify trends, opportunities, and risks related to supply health.
•Collaborate with engineering, product management, business development, and marketing to define end-to-end solutions and ensure production implementation and monitoring of ML systems.

Key Requirements

•Expert knowledge of machine learning techniques, including classification, anomaly detection, and natural language processing (NLP).
•Ability to read, write, and debug code in programming languages such as Python.
•Strong probability and statistics knowledge, including experimental design, optimization, and causal inference.
•Ability to rigorously break down complex problems and understand tradeoffs to deliver impactful projects.
•Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with cross-functional partners at various technical levels.
