Job Summary

Lead mechanical design for an AI-powered autonomous retail platform where hardware and software must work as one product. Translate functional and product requirements into manufacturable enclosure, structure, and sealed component designs, and drive designs from concept to production. Partner closely with hardware engineers on electro-mechanical integration, perform FEA and thermal simulations, validate with real tests, and deliver production-grade drawings, BOMs, and DFM/DFT-driven documentation.

Key Responsibilities

•Develop complete mechanical designs from architecture through detailed design for enclosures, structures, mechanisms, and assemblies.
•Design sheet metal and sealed enclosures with manufacturable geometry, tolerances, gasketing, and thermal management.
•Lead electro-mechanical integration with PCB, display, connector, harness routing, strain relief, and sealed pass-through interfaces.
•Run structural and thermal analysis, validate designs on real hardware, and feed test results back into revisions.
•Create production-grade documentation (2D drawing packs with GD&T, BOMs, assembly/integration guides) and drive DFM reviews and prototype-to-production build/test cycles on-site.

Key Requirements

•6+ years of hands-on mechanical design experience taking products through to production, not only research or drafting.
•Strong, current Onshape experience as the single source of truth with recent real production work.
•Deep sheet metal capability including flat patterns, bend allowances, K-factor, and forming/weld distortion considerations.
•Practical fastening and joining knowledge (e.g., threaded inserts, weld nuts, rivets/clinch nuts, adhesive bonding) with an understanding of failure modes.
•Experience with electro-mechanical integration plus structural and thermal analysis (FEA and thermal/heat-transfer simulation), alongside sealed enclosure and IP-rating design.
