Job Summary

Build and scale Canva’s User Platform backend systems to support rapid growth, including user authentication/authorization and user management for millions of daily users. Work with a backend engineering team to decompose and re-architect a microservices landscape, designing reusable building blocks such as permissions and product capability controls. Improve performance using AWS and collaborate across teams to deliver features for Pro, Enterprise, and Education customers.

Key Responsibilities

•Collaborate on a backend-focused engineering team to extend and scale Canva’s User Platform across its microservices landscape.
•Deliver high-performance systems for authenticating, authorizing, and managing users, avatars, groups, and teams.
•Design, build, and maintain reusable building blocks for the User Platform.
•Partner with stakeholder teams to evaluate requirements, align timelines, and optimize for customer value.
•Improve the experience for Enterprise and Education customers with large teams.

Key Requirements

•Strong background designing, building, and running high-performance, large-scale Java backend systems.
•Solid computer science and engineering fundamentals, including concurrency, multithreading, data structures, solution design, architecture, and design patterns.
•Experience collaborating with teammates and communicating effectively.
•Problem-solver mindset with good written and verbal communication skills.
•Authentication and authorization systems experience is a huge plus.
