Key Responsibilities

  • •Lead Embedded’s technically strong engineering group, weighted toward senior talent, across multiple production challenges.
  • •Partner with engineering leaders across teams to shape technical decisions and deliver outcomes through earned influence.
  • •Define how engagements work, what great looks like, and how Production Engineering impact is measured.
  • •Create an environment for senior engineers to do their best work by setting direction, building psychological safety, and providing direct coaching.
  • •Scale the Embedded model by developing reusable standards and practices from individual engagements into engineering capabilities across Canva.

Key Requirements

  • •Have led highly experienced software engineers and technical leads through complex or ambiguous work, providing effective coaching and guidance.
  • •Have production exposure in software environments where reliability, scalability, and production risk are genuinely important.
  • •Earn trust across teams and lead cross-org delivery from problem understanding through measurable outcomes.
  • •Possess strong CS fundamentals, including concurrency, multithreading, and data structures.
  • •Have deep technical knowledge across systems, including networking and cloud platforms (AWS or GCP), plus reliability engineering familiarity (observability, capacity, failure modes).
