Optimize and manage utilities systems across Smithfield’s US Fresh and Packaged Meat facilities, focusing on industrial refrigeration, boiler, and compressed air. Support capital infrastructure planning, design and implementation of system improvements, and troubleshooting of refrigeration-related issues. Assist with planning and budgeting for utilities engineering projects, perform research and analysis to drive continuous improvement, and ensure systems are efficient, safe, and compliant through regulatory guidance.

Key Responsibilities

•Support US Fresh and Packaged Meat facilities by partnering with facilities teams and project engineering on capital infrastructure plans.
•Assist with design and implementation activities, including selecting equipment, obtaining quotes, scheduling work, and standardizing equipment requirements.
•Plan and help budget utilities engineering improvement projects and optimize utility systems for facility operating requirements.
•Research and test new technology; assess complex operations and systems to support operations management.
•Identify and correct deficiencies in existing refrigeration systems using load, charge, and relief calculations; ensure protocols and practices are followed.

Salary: USD 85,000 - 120,000 annually

Key Requirements

•Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field and 5+ years of experience in operations, maintenance, and optimization of ammonia refrigeration systems (or equivalent).
•RETA CIRO (Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator) certification (International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration) or equivalent; ANSI/IIAR2 certification; Garden City Program Operator II (or equivalent).
•Deep theoretical understanding of industrial refrigeration systems and ability to apply it to the role’s responsibilities.
•Strong reading, math, writing, and analytical skills.
•Ability to perform assigned tasks efficiently with minimum supervision; travel is required (50% of the time).
