Key Responsibilities

  • •Select type and size of pipe and other related materials and equipment according to specifications.
  • •Plan layouts and assemble piping and structural forms by laying out, positioning, aligning, and fitting components.
  • •Weld metal components together using arc and arc gas welding equipment in multiple positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead) and perform tack welds.
  • •Obtain and prepare specified electrodes or thread consumable electrode wire through a portable welding gun; configure welding unit settings (amperage, voltage, slope, pulse).
  • •Weld components according to blueprints and metallurgy and produce welds that meet NDE requirements.

Key Requirements

  • •Select pipe and related materials and equipment according to specifications.
  • •Use welding processes such as SMAW, GTAW, GMAW (and related arc welding types) to perform required welds.
  • •Lay out, align, and weld fabricated, cast, and forged components according to blueprints and metallurgy.
  • •Be capable of certifying on multi-process pipe and producing welds that meet NDE (non-destructive examination) requirements.
  • •Set welding parameters (amperage, voltage, slope, pulse) and prepare electrodes/consumable wire as specified by procedure or supervisor.
