Key Responsibilities

  • •Lead SMBC BI’s Social Value Creation and Sustainability activities, including E&S regulatory compliance across the UK entity in close coordination with the EMEA Head of Sustainability Strategy.
  • •Execute EMEA sustainability strategy and social value creation framework through governance forums and committee participation, representing SMBC BI externally with regulators and clients.
  • •Sponsor sustainability-related regulatory and transformation programs, including UK PRA SS5/25 and sustainability reporting standards, ensuring alignment with European implementation.
  • •Oversee environmental and social due diligence (ESDD) processes for EMEA deals and advise on sustainability risk frameworks, risk appetite statements, and related policies.
  • •Provide strategic direction for SMBC BI’s long-term social value creation and net-zero strategies, manage budget administration for social value management activities, and prepare annual sustainability disclosures.

Key Requirements

  • •Deep knowledge of sustainability, sustainable finance, and relevant regulatory and disclosure frameworks.
  • •Extensive leadership experience within a major financial institution, regulator, international organisation, or similar environment.
  • •Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders, lead diverse teams, and deliver strategic change in a complex international organisation.
  • •In-depth understanding of sustainability regulatory/disclosure frameworks (e.g., ISSB, TCFD/TNFD, ICMA/LMA principles, PRA/EBA regulations, UNFCCC COP principles).
  • •Experience with sustainable/ESG financial products including green, social, sustainability-linked loans/bonds, and transition finance.
