Key Responsibilities

  • •Plan and conduct original research with measurable outcomes, including designing and coordinating research activities and programmes.
  • •Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines and ETL processes to acquire, clean, link, and standardise maternity, neonatal, and hospital data.
  • •Build and maintain a harmonised maternity research data model and database schema for efficient, reproducible data storage and retrieval.
  • •Develop scalable, secure data infrastructure within a secure data environment to support maternity research and analysis by consortium investigators.
  • •Publish research findings and supervise and examine PhD students, while providing expert advice to colleagues and students.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: GBP 47,389 - 56,535 annually

Key Requirements

  • •PhD relevant to health informatics/data engineering, or equivalent PhD-level qualification, or extensive senior-level professional experience in healthcare data.
  • •Extensive research experience including data engineering and statistical analysis with strong programming skills in SQL, Python, and R.
  • •In-depth knowledge of UK healthcare data and NHS electronic patient record/maternity information systems (e.g., Epic, BadgerNet).
  • •Experience integrating and working with healthcare systems interoperability standards, including integration engines and HL7 v2/FHIR messaging, plus services such as GP Connect and the NHS Spine.
  • •Strong understanding of data security and information governance in a health setting (e.g., UK GDPR, Caldicott principles, trusted/secure research environments).
