Job Summary

Develop daily and hourly operating generation plans for Alberta hydro assets and submit energy offers to the Alberta Electric System Operator using TransAlta hydro modeling tools. Partner with the Asset Optimization team to maximize safe, efficient water use while meeting environmental, dam safety, Water Act, and market constraints. Ensure AESO compliance, provide daily guidelines to the Hydro System Control Center, and coordinate spillway operations, including rotating on-call support.

Job Function: Energy & Utilities Operations

Key Responsibilities

•Develop daily and hourly operating generation plans for Alberta hydro assets and submit daily energy offers to the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) using TransAlta’s Hydro Modeling applications.
•Work with the Asset Optimization team to maximize safe and efficient use of water resources within operational, environmental, dam safety, Water Act, and Alberta market constraints.
•Ensure environmental, operational, and regulatory restrictions are current and compliant with AESO rules.
•Provide daily operation guidelines to TransAlta’s Hydro System Control Center (HSCC) Operators and support hydro operations with technical water-management advice.
•Plan and coordinate spillway operations within operating constraints and ensure the TransAlta Flood Action Plan (FAP) is strictly followed during runoff season and emergencies.

Key Requirements

•Expertise in Microsoft Excel and knowledge of linear programming.
