Job Summary

Deliver advanced power testing and energization field support for Protection and Control work in high-voltage substations across multiple states. Perform hands-on protective relay testing with instruments like Omicron CMC and Doble test sets, follow safety and regulatory requirements, and troubleshoot non-routine equipment issues. Lead and coordinate field documentation using digital tools, manage calibration and maintenance logs, and support project execution through risk mitigation, compliance walkthroughs, and coordination with subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities

•Perform testing and commissioning of Protection and Control systems on high voltage substations.
•Conduct on-site protective relay testing using relay test sets (e.g., Omicron CMC 256/356, Doble F6150) and test relays such as SEL-311L, SEL-387, SEL-487, SEL-421, SEL-351S, GE L90, and GE D60.
•Follow safety protocols including daily safety briefings and job hazard assessments, and lead tailgate meetings to support health, safety, and environmental compliance.
•Use field forms and digital data tools/mobile applications to document site activities, and maintain calibration and maintenance logs for field equipment and vehicles.
•Support project execution by coordinating with subcontractors, providing input to schedules/equipment needs, and troubleshooting technical issues with minimal supervision.

Key Requirements

•High school diploma or equivalent.
•Minimum of 9 years in the electrical testing industry, including experience with medium/high voltage circuit breakers, power transformers, instrument transformers, and substation protection and controls testing.
•Expertise in transmission, generation, or distribution relays (SEL, Basler, Beckwith, GE families) and protective schemes.
•Proven relay calibration and testing skills using test sets such as Omicron CMC 256/356 and Doble F6150, including control scheme testing and microprocessor relay settings upload.
•Knowledge of electrical field testing standards and practices such as NETA, IEEE, and NFPA, plus familiarity with testing projects from 15 kV to 500 kV.
