Key Responsibilities

  • •Investigate, interview, and inspect property damage within the assigned territory; prepare estimates and make recommendations, including coverage questions and litigation handling.
  • •Set and maintain claim reserves; review reports; direct experts; determine coverage and claim value; issue or decline payment; negotiate claims with plaintiff attorneys when necessary.
  • •Document claim files and submit reports for closure; recognize subrogation situations and initiate appropriate action.
  • •Service assigned territory and bring claims to conclusion; interact with agents and district sales managers on matters of mutual concern.
  • •Complete training and stay informed on policy changes, interpretation, and new legislation; assist in training new claims adjusters and participate on the Catastrophe Team when required.

Key Requirements

  • •Property Adjuster Trainee: High school diploma (or equivalent) required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • •Property Adjuster I: High school diploma/GED and 2 years of claims handling experience, or equivalent; or successful completion of ERIE sponsored formal education; or bachelor’s degree required.
  • •Property Adjuster II: High school diploma/GED and 5 years of claims handling experience (or equivalent); or bachelor’s degree and 2 years of claims handling experience (or equivalent).
  • •Must live in the assigned territory and serve on catastrophe duty, including short-notice travel for periods exceeding two consecutive weeks.
  • •Valid driver’s license and good driving record required; willingness to obtain required licenses and complete Technical Learning Center training.
