Key Responsibilities

  • •Run payroll end-to-end and own the full native Portuguese payroll cycle each cycle, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • •Maintain payroll master data for hires, terminations, salary changes, variable pay, benefits (including meal vouchers), absences, and garnishments (penhoras de vencimento).
  • •Perform pre- and post-payroll validations, checking your work carefully and escalating issues before they reach customers or Finance.
  • •Handle statutory filings and accesses, including IRS withholding declarations, DMR filings to Segurança Social, Modelo 10, and subsídio de doença/parental reimbursement claims.
  • •Follow payroll system procedures, test legislative updates, support reporting (including EU pay transparency and GDPR), and provide documentation for audits.

Key Requirements

  • •1–3 years running native (in-house) payroll processes for Portugal and comfortably managing a defined volume of payslips monthly.
  • •Hands-on experience with Portuguese payroll software Cegid (Primavera or PHC) and/or Sendys.
  • •Completed a recognized accounting/payroll qualification (e.g., Contabilista Certificado) and/or a dedicated payroll processing certification.
  • •Working knowledge of Portuguese wage tax, social insurance, and labor law, with willingness to deepen expertise.
  • •Portuguese at C1/C2 and fluent English; able to handle client queries and escalate beyond scope with clear context.
