Own the system-level architecture, grounding, fault behavior, and stability story for converter-interfaced networks, and run EMT-level fault and stability analysis to prove designs. Set the protection philosophy and safety case ahead of evolving standards, define the DC Systems team’s first deliverables, and align technical interfaces with adjacent facility and SST teams.
Location: New York, San Francisco, Austin, Seattle
Workplace: Onsite
Employment Type: Full time
Job Function: Administration & Executive Assistance
Seniority: Manager level

Key Responsibilities

  • •Architect MVDC distribution for gigawatt-scale campuses, selecting voltage level, topology, and grounding scheme and defending choices on fault behavior, stability, and cost.
  • •Own the system EMT model and run fault and stability analysis that proves converter-interfaced networks hold with defendable margins.
  • •Set the protection philosophy with the protection engineer and own the safety case where standards haven’t caught up, rigorous enough for review by an AHJ.
  • •Lead the DC Systems team: define first deliverables and manage technical interfaces with SST and facility electrical teams.
  • •Drive vendor strategy for SSCBs, converters, and DC-rated components, and identify ecosystem gaps the architecture must design around.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: USD 208,000 - 263,000 annually

Key Requirements

  • •12+ years in power systems or power electronics with direct MVDC or HVDC system design experience end to end.
  • •Own the system-level story (architecture, grounding, fault behavior, stability) for converter-dominated networks and walk a DC fault sequence from initiation to clearing.
  • •Fluent in EMT simulation (PSCAD/EMTDC) and able to prove designs, not just validate after the fact.
  • •Built defensible safety cases ahead of immature standards between IEEE 1709 and MVDC provisions arriving in NEC 2026.
  • •Led small technical teams and know what the first deliverable should be.
