Job Summary

Independently deliver and lead complex mine waste and tailings engineering assignments for WSP’s US Mine Waste team. You’ll manage geotechnical engineering work across the full lifecycle—from initial layout and site/facility design through field investigations, lab testing, and advanced analyses (stability, seepage, thermal, deposition, runout). Serve as a technical resource and may act as Engineer of Record, while leading multidisciplinary teams and mentoring junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities

•Lead and direct multidisciplinary design of mine waste containment and heap leach facilities, including layout, geotechnical/hydrologic analyses, and construction drawings/specifications.
•Manage and execute mine waste geotechnical projects, including field investigations, laboratory testing, data interpretation, and geotechnical analysis.
•Scope, direct, and review complex geotechnical analyses (soil mechanics, stability, seepage, thermal modeling, deposition, and runout analyses).
•Independently manage projects against client scopes of work and deliver high-quality reports on time and within budget subject to senior review.
•Provide client-facing support for relationship building and business development, lead multidisciplinary teams, and manage junior engineers.

Key Requirements

•Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or closely related discipline.
•More than 10 years of relevant post-education experience in mine waste engineering and geotechnical design.
•Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
•Demonstrated experience designing and managing tailings and/or heap leach facility work.
•Advanced knowledge in soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering, with client liaison and business development experience.
