Job Summary

Support highway, grade, and paving crews with manual labor to prepare the ground for road construction. You will clear and grade subgrade and base materials, remove debris and unsuitable material, spread and compact aggregate or dirt, and set grade stakes/string lines. You’ll also assist pavers with raking, leveling, and shaping roadway surfaces, help with traffic control setup, handle materials and equipment, and follow OSHA/MSHA safety procedures.

Key Responsibilities

•Prepare ground surfaces for road construction by grading and leveling subgrade and base materials.
•Remove debris, obstacles, and unsuitable material from the construction path.
•Shovel, rake, and spread aggregate, dirt, and road base materials; operate hand tools and compactors to level and compact base layers.
•Assist paving crews by raking and leveling material behind paving equipment, helping shape and finish roadway surfaces, and signaling operators for proper alignment and safe movement.
•Load, unload, move, and distribute materials, tools, and equipment; assist with traffic control setup; keep the job site organized and clean.
