  • •Lead initiatives within Elasticsearch to deliver an industry-leading vector database offering focused on speed and relevance.
  • •Build and improve vector search features in Elasticsearch and fix complex bugs, while making the codebase easier to understand.
  • •Design and implement new vector search features, including inventing new algorithms or data structures when needed.
  • •Serve as an expert on Elasticsearch’s vector similarity implementation and improve the area based on questions and instincts.

Key Requirements

  • •Professional experience with vector similarity and vector databases at scale, including use of HNSW, IVF, or other relevant algorithms/libraries.
  • •Strong core Java skills and familiarity with data structures and concurrency constructs (including lambdas).
  • •Experience contributing end-to-end on technical projects, including technical design and working with other engineers to build components.
  • •Comfort collaborating via code review and feedback on code, approaches, and APIs in distributed/async settings.
  • •Experience with data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra, and understanding their roles.
