Job Summary

Design, build, and integrate automated manufacturing systems for Starship Heat Shield tiles on the Starship Heat Shield Engineering team. Model mechanical assemblies and fluid routing in CAD, create manufacturing drawings and work instructions, and specify components for procurement. Act as a technical point of contact for equipment and system vendors, owning integration and activation schedules while partnering with Automation and Controls on system control implementation.

Key Responsibilities

•Engineer automated manufacturing systems using industrial mechanical and fluid systems knowledge.
•Model assemblies, fluid routing, and assemblies in CAD software and create detailed manufacturing drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
•Specify and down-select components (sensors, valves, pumps, machining hardware, mechanisms) and provide purchase specifications.
•Own system integration and activation schedules; serve as technical point of contact for equipment/system vendors.
•Write procedures for system activation, manufacturing operations, and preventative maintenance while partnering with Automation and Controls to implement control systems.

Travel: Low travel

Key Requirements

•Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, chemical, aerospace, materials, or manufacturing engineering.
•1+ years of hands-on build or design experience (internship, club, and competition team experience qualifies).
•Experience integrating/designing/building in high-rate, high-volume production environments (preferred).
•Hands-on experience with automated mechanical and machining/assembly systems (preferred).
•Experience creating and monitoring statistical process control for key process parameters and quality metrics (preferred).
