Lead the design and scaling of the AI agents facing platform, evolving from a vector/semantic search platform to a full hybrid search capability and ultimately Atlassian’s agentic retrieval layer. Own the technical direction to ensure high quality results, low latency, reliability, and cost efficiency as it serves human users and AI agents at enterprise scale across Atlassian’s knowledge base.

Key Responsibilities

•Architect and scale the AI agents facing platform, leading the evolution from vector/semantic search to a full hybrid search capability and ultimately the agentic retrieval layer.
•Own the technical direction of this evolution, ensuring high-quality results, low latency, high reliability, and cost efficiency at enterprise scale.
•Deliver solutions that serve both human users and AI agents across Atlassian’s knowledge base (Confluence, Jira, Trello, etc.).
•Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design scalable architectures and maintain system robustness in production with real-world traffic.
•Mentor teams and contribute to best practices for deploying AI models at scale.

Key Requirements

•7+ years of experience as a software developer.
•Deep experience building and operating production search, ads, or recommendation systems at scale with real traffic and latency considerations.
•Hands-on experience building GenAI systems — shipping agents, LLM-powered applications, or AI systems at scale.
•Expertise in hybrid search — building indexes that combine vector/semantic and full-text/lexical retrieval.
•Experience with scaling and deploying Machine Learning models.
