Key Responsibilities

  • •Lead Agent Tools, Agent Observability, and Runner Execution teams across frontend, backend, and AI engineering.
  • •Grow the group by hiring, onboarding, coaching, and developing engineers at every level.
  • •Partner with product and UX to turn ambiguous problems into shipped milestones and make prioritization tradeoffs explicit.
  • •Contribute to technical design for running agents safely and effectively at scale.
  • •Establish standards for the group’s use of AI tools (tool selection and configuration) and coach engineers through ambiguity.
  • •Represent the group across GitLab’s AI organization and with dependent teams for the GitLab Duo Agent Platform.

Salary: USD 152,800 - 172,800

Key Requirements

  • •Experience managing distributed engineering teams through technical leads and staff-level engineers.
  • •Hands-on engineering experience with modern AI coding tools and agent harnesses, with strong technical judgment.
  • •Ability to guide teams applying AI to software engineering workflows and making technical decisions.
  • •Experience delivering results in fast-paced environments with ambiguous requirements.
  • •Experience building and deploying AI products, including sandboxing/container isolation, observability, reliability engineering, or using Python, Ruby, Go, or TypeScript (helpful).
