Job Summary

Develop, qualify, and continuously improve welding and fabrication processes for precision welded semiconductor equipment assemblies across Applied Materials’ global supplier base. Own supplier QA processes, review welding procedures against AWS/ASME requirements, and monitor performance using KPIs and audits. Lead quality issue resolution with RCA (8D, Six Sigma), drive corrective actions to closure, and analyze data with SPC and Pareto methods to improve yield, reduce variation, and support NPI.

Key Responsibilities

•Develop and maintain supplier quality assurance processes for supplier-manufactured welded components, reviewing and approving welding procedures for AWS/ASME and customer requirements.
•Lead supplier qualification, capability assessments, technical audits, and performance monitoring using KPIs such as yield, PPM, FPY, defect trends, and audit scores.
•Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and process engineering to resolve weldability issues (distortion, cracking, reliability) and support advanced joining technologies and materials.
•Lead incident management and quality problem resolution using structured RCA (8D, Six Sigma tools, fishbone, 5-Why, fault tree), ensuring corrective actions close effectively.
•Analyze supplier quality data with SPC and trend/capability studies, drive continuous improvement through FMEA/control plans/PFMEA/MSA, and support NPI/FAI/PPAP review for manufacturability.

Travel: High travel

Key Requirements

•7+ years of hands-on welding experience (GTAW, GMAW, EBW, LBW, brazing) with manual, semi-automatic, and automated equipment.
•Strong grounding in metallurgy, material testing, and heat treatment processes, plus weld defect characterization.
•Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerances, and weld symbols; familiarity with standard manufacturing processes.
•Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
•Proficiency with MS Excel for reporting and basic data analysis, plus strong teamwork and communication skills.
