Key Responsibilities

  • •Conduct applied and experimental AI research to solve complex customer and business problems across domains including defence, aerospace, cyber security, and rail.
  • •Develop state-of-the-art AI/ML solutions and research prototypes using real-world data, including deep learning, multimodal AI, self-supervised learning, foundation models, generative AI, computer vision, NLP/LLMs, time-series analytics, and reinforcement learning where relevant.
  • •Translate business and customer needs into research questions, experimental plans, technical requirements, and measurable success criteria.
  • •Design and implement robust evaluation methodologies (baselines, benchmarks, ablation, uncertainty, robustness, and performance against operationally meaningful metrics) while collaborating with AI assurance and human-machine teaming teams.
  • •Build reproducible research pipelines (preprocessing, feature engineering, training, tracking, evaluation, and reporting) and package outputs for transition to AI engineering teams, plus support bids/demos/workshops.

Key Requirements

  • •Degree/Masters (or equivalent experience) in a relevant Software/AI subject such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or Physics.
  • •Strong Python skills with modern research/software engineering practices, including testing, code quality, reproducibility, and collaborative development.
  • •Experience conducting AI/ML research or advanced AI development in complex technical, preferably regulated domains (e.g., defence, aviation, rail, cyber security, mission-critical).
  • •Expertise in ML/DL across supervised, unsupervised, self-supervised, and (where relevant) reinforcement learning, with hands-on experience in areas like deep neural networks, CV, NLP/LLMs, multimodal AI, time-series, or foundation models.
  • •Proven end-to-end ability from problem framing and experimental design through evaluation and prototype demonstration, including strong experimental design and statistical benchmarking.
