Job Summary

Lead FSQA at a high-volume Smithfield plant, ensuring food safety, quality, and regulatory compliance for trusted brands. Oversee USDA/FDA programs, audit readiness, root cause investigations, corrective actions, sanitation programs, and SQF Food Safety and Quality Plans. Manage and mentor a large FSQA team while partnering with plant and corporate leadership to drive continuous improvement and protect product integrity from raw material to finished goods.

Key Responsibilities

•Oversee food safety, quality, and regulatory programs to ensure USDA/FDA compliance, accurate documentation, and audit readiness.
•Lead root cause investigations and implement corrective actions while maintaining relationships with USDA inspectors.
•Drive food safety and quality improvement with FSQA and Operations teams to prevent HACCP, SSOP, and product/process failures.
•Design, manage, and track the facility’s sanitation program, including audits and microbial testing, with data-driven responses to issues.
•Lead and develop the FSQA team by managing staffing, schedules, performance reviews, and training, including cross-training coverage as needed.

Key Requirements

•Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 8+ years’ experience in the food industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
•2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership.
•Hands-on experience with microbiological testing of meat and poultry products, including knowledge of foodborne pathogens and microbiological/limited chemistry testing.
•Comprehensive knowledge of USDA, FSIS, HACCP, and SSOP requirements, with familiarity with QMS systems, SAP, and database/inventory software tools.
•Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to address inquiries from regulatory agencies, customers, and internal stakeholders while maintaining high documentation and compliance standards.
