Job Summary

Support the technical vision for an animated feature film by overseeing front-end production pipeline workflows. Collaborate with the Technical Supervisor, Solutions Engineering, R&D, and creative leadership to troubleshoot pipeline issues, validate tool changes, and develop or improve pipeline tools. Provide day-to-day technical guidance and mentorship to TDs across early production stages (story to modelling/rigging/surfacing). Manage estimates, prioritization, and scheduling to protect artist productivity and maintain studio standards.

Key Responsibilities

•Troubleshoot and optimize production workflows, providing practical solutions via existing tools or new tool development.
•Safeguard artist productivity by testing and validating pipeline changes, tracking and resolving issues with Technical Supervisors, Solutions Engineering, and R&D.
•Provide day-to-day technical guidance to TDs, escalating issues through the right channels and supporting onboarding and mentorship.
•Oversee front-end pipeline technical direction across stages including story, edit, art, concept, design, visual development, previs, modelling, rigging, and surfacing; support pipeline integration and troubleshooting.
•Track development initiatives and coordinate cross-departmental testing and prioritization to keep work on track, including preparing estimates, pitches, and plans.

Key Requirements

•5+ years of proven pipeline TD experience in animated features, animated TV series, and/or VFX feature films, with demonstrated leadership in feature animation or VFX.
•Strong technical foundation including solid Python skills (plus PyQt or another GUI toolkit), familiarity with data flow/metadata/publishing concepts, and ability to review code and troubleshoot issues.
•Deep understanding of traditional production workflows and tools, including experience using and troubleshooting relevant DCCs and production tracking software such as Flow Production Tracking (ShotGrid) or similar.
•Experience with modern software development practices including git/GitHub, code review, and Agile methodologies using tools such as Jira.
•Degree in Animation, Film, Computer Science, Design, Engineering, Math, or Physics, or equivalent professional experience in animation/VFX.
