Job Summary

Lead the growing Tunnelling & Underground Structures Team in a mid–senior level role, combining leadership with hands-on technical delivery. You’ll manage a 15–20 engineer team, shape UK tunnelling strategy, engage clients and industry bodies, and oversee safety, quality, and bids across multidisciplinary projects in the UK and abroad.

Key Responsibilities

•Safety culture and performance: Ensure safety is the primary concern of all team members, carry out risk assessments, implement safety control measures, and report safety observations for learning and improvement.
•Stakeholder relationships: Lead work winning and business development activities, maintain relationships with public sector and contractor clients, and lead proposals and resourcing reviews.
•Quality control: Ensure data accuracy and forecasting provided to the Regional Lead for Tunnelling, including safety and financial indicators and work pipeline.
•Leadership: Define and influence workplace culture, set the tone for communication and collaboration, and raise morale and productivity.
•Collaboration: Foster an inclusive environment, set clear goals and rewards, and maintain client and industry relationships to position AECOM for tenders.

Key Requirements

•Degree educated or equivalent in a relevant field such as Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, coupled with post graduate experience in a Leadership role with a Tunnelling team.
•Chartered Engineer (EI, ICE, IStructE or equivalent recognized professional institution)
•Excellent communication (written and spoken) and interpersonal skills
•Previous experience in rock and soft ground and encompassing tunnels, shafts and deep excavations for transportation, energy and utility related schemes.
•Experience working on large, multi-disciplinary projects and an ability to engage with and understand the requirements of different disciplines and interfaces will be key. In this context, you will be expected to be available to undertake a number of possible project roles, such as Technical Lead, Design Manager or Project Manager as well as leading bids.
