Key Responsibilities

  • •Supervise and control detainee behavior; restrain by force if necessary using handcuffs and other restraints.
  • •Communicate effectively with staff and detainees using approved communication devices (telephone, intercom, portable radios).
  • •Perform searches of detainees, vehicles, mail items, and areas to detect/locate contraband.
  • •Maintain control and custody by monitoring detainee locations and documenting as required; escort detainees using approved restraints.
  • •Secure facility perimeter and areas (outer perimeter, main gate, lobby) and support detainee admission/release processing; transport detainees securely to off-site locations and maintain uninterrupted custody care.

  • •Use sound judgment in handling special-needs situations and detainees, including restraining by force if necessary.

  • •Be physically able and ready to perform duties safely under potentially harsh environmental conditions.
  • •Pass extensive background investigation and drug testing; maintain required NYS permits/licenses and CDL (NYS pistol permit, NYS Armed Guard License, Class C CDL with passenger endorsement).
