Key Responsibilities

  • •Develop and execute high-fidelity 2D/3D finite element models for fuel rods, pellets, and cladding under steady-state, transient, and accident scenarios.
  • •Analyze pellet-cladding mechanical and thermal interactions, including stress concentrations, mechanical locking, and cladding strain.
  • •Integrate time- and burnup-dependent fuel phenomena such as fission gas release, fuel swelling, densification, thermal conductivity degradation, and cladding creep/hydriding.
  • •Apply and customize nuclear fuel performance codes and commercial solvers to predict fuel life-cycle behavior.
  • •Lead V&V and produce/authorize formal technical and licensing topical reports to defend fuel safety margins before nuclear regulatory authorities.

Key Requirements

  • •Master’s or Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • •5–8+ years in computational mechanics, including at least 3 years focused on nuclear fuel performance modeling or core materials evaluation.
  • •Advanced proficiency with nuclear fuel burnup/performance codes, specifically BISON or FRAPCON.
  • •Experience using commercial implicit solvers such as Abaqus or ANSYS Mechanical.
