Key Responsibilities

  • •Develop independent electrical and related system cost estimates from early concept through bid, issued-for-construction, change orders, and construction phases.
  • •Perform quantity takeoffs and build estimate components across labor, material, equipment, subcontract, testing/commissioning, temporary work, escalation, contingency, markup, and indirect costs.
  • •Prepare basis-of-estimate narratives, assumptions, exclusions, clarifications, estimate classifications, and reconciliation documentation; document cost risks and missing/conflicting design information.
  • •Review consultant, contractor, and peer estimates for scope completeness, quantity accuracy, labor productivity, pricing/markups, escalation/contingency, and compliance with estimating requirements.
  • •Maintain historical cost data and lead estimate reviews/cost reconciliation meetings; communicate methodology and major cost drivers to project managers, engineers, procurement, and senior leadership.

Key Requirements

  • •Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or closely related field (or equivalent electrical trade training and estimating experience).
  • •Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible electrical construction estimating experience, including at least 5 years estimating complex public infrastructure projects (transit/rail/utilities/transportation/industrial).
  • •Demonstrated ability to independently develop detailed conceptual through bid or issued-for-construction estimates, including quantity takeoff, labor, pricing, indirect costs, escalation/contingency, and schedule/phasing impacts.
  • •Hands-on estimating across multiple electrical scopes (e.g., medium/low voltage distribution, substations/switchgear, transformers/generators, UPS/batteries, grounding/bonding, lighting, fire alarm, traction power, ATC/signaling interfaces, communications/SCADA, CCTV, access control).
  • •Ability to interpret electrical single-line diagrams, plans/specifications, as-builts, and construction sequencing; working knowledge of NEC and applicable codes/standards.
