Job Summary

Contribute to drainage and surface water projects across Queensland by supporting hydrological assessments and flood modelling for road, rail, and aviation infrastructure. Build and interpret TUFLOW hydrology and hydraulic models under senior engineers’ guidance, use GIS (including QGIS) to manage and present outputs, and help with drainage design tasks such as culverts, channels, and pit and pipe systems. Support water-quality modelling and prepare clear technical reports and documentation.

Key Responsibilities

•Support hydrological assessments and surface water modelling for civil infrastructure projects.
•Build, run, and interpret hydrology and hydraulic (TUFLOW) models under guidance from senior engineers.
•Use GIS tools to manage, review, and present hydrological data and flood modelling outputs.
•Assist with drainage design tasks, including culverts, open channels, and pit and pipe systems.
•Contribute to water quality assessments and modelling, and prepare clear technical inputs, design reports, figures, and supporting documentation.

Key Requirements

•Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or a related water resources discipline.
•1–3 years’ experience in flood modelling, hydrology, or drainage design.
•Strong interest in hydrology and hydraulic modelling, particularly TUFLOW hydraulic modelling for infrastructure and development projects.
•Exposure to ARR, QUDM, Austroads, or TMR guidance would be helpful, with a willingness to learn.
•Experience with QGIS and interest in developing mapping and data presentation skills.
