Job Summary

Join the Compute team to evolve Hex’s execution architecture for compiling, planning, and running user notebooks. Drive parallel execution and caching strategies to reduce latency when querying warehouse data, and instrument systems to diagnose performance bottlenecks. Collaborate with engineering and product to build new platform capabilities (including an internal query language). Lead technical proposals, mentor engineers, and roadmap long-term compute designs hands-on.

Key Responsibilities

•Evolve Hex’s execution architecture for compiling, planning, and running user notebooks by proposing and building new compute components.
•Design parallel execution strategies and caching approaches to reduce latency and minimize unnecessary external warehouse round trips.
•Instrument complex systems to surface and diagnose performance problems and clarify where time is spent.
•Collaborate across engineering and product to enable new platform capabilities, including an internal query language that compiles to connected warehouse dialects.
•Author and review technical proposals, mentor engineers, and propose/roadmap long-term compute designs with milestones across quarters.

Salary: USD 150,400 - 258,500 annually

Key Requirements

•10+ years of backend engineering experience focused on computation, performance, database/storage optimization, and systems architecture.
•Experience designing parallel execution strategies and caching approaches for remote data warehouse computation, with strong systems intuition.
•Proven ability to solve difficult large-scale systems design problems involving significant data and operational complexity.
•Ability to translate ambiguous problems into well-articulated technical solutions and roadmap designs with clear milestones.
•Strong communicator comfortable leading technical work in a remote-first environment; Python and/or TypeScript required.
