Job Summary

Design on-device, spatial user experiences for edge AI hardware, collaborating with mechanical, industrial design, ML, optical, and sensor teams to build coherent products across form factors and system behaviors. Translate real-world workflows into UX hypotheses, agentic interaction models, and state representations, including local-vs-cloud communication and graceful degradation. Create high-fidelity interactive prototypes and simulation frameworks, then run rapid feedback loops from field deployments into product and research iterations.
Location: San Jose
Employment Type: Full time
Job Function: Design (Product/UX/UI/Visual)
Seniority: Graduate level

Key Responsibilities

  • •Partner with customers, field teams, engineers, and end users to understand real-world workflows, deployment conditions, and failure points, and translate them into UX hypotheses, interaction models, and prototype plans.
  • •Design forward-deployed UX programs that adapt core product capabilities across industries, environments, and user groups without fragmenting the overall experience.
  • •Define how on-device AI communicates system state, confidence, progress, uncertainty, limitations, and required user actions across SLMs, local multimodal models, embeddings, sensor fusion, and hybrid local-cloud architectures.
  • •Design agentic interaction models and user-facing representations of agent status, including clear boundaries between autonomous behavior and explicit user control, and mechanisms to inspect, redirect, pause, or reverse consequential actions.
  • •Build high-fidelity interactive spatial prototypes and digital simulation frameworks, establish rapid feedback loops from field deployments, and identify whether issues require changes across software, model, hardware, workflow, or user education.

Key Requirements

  • •Be completing or have recently completed a Master’s degree in HCI, Industrial Design, Interaction Design, UX, Human Factors Engineering, Design Engineering, Computer Science (HCI/AR/VR focus), Mechanical Engineering (Product Design/Human Factors), Cognitive Science, or a related field.
  • •Have experience designing embedded systems, AR/MR hardware, wearable devices, or physical-digital products, shown via projects, internships, research, or a portfolio emphasizing 3D spatial and physical-form thinking.
  • •Understand on-device AI and edge computing concepts, including Small Language Models (SLMs) and local vector embeddings, plus tradeoffs among inference speed, battery, thermal performance, and UX.
  • •Have a strong foundation in industrial design, ergonomics, and spatial interaction design, considering how digital interfaces integrate with physical hardware constraints and human factors.
  • •Proficient with interactive prototyping tools such as Figma and modern 3D prototyping stacks (e.g., Three.js/WebGL, Unity, Unreal Engine), including familiarity analyzing sensor data (e.g., IMUs) and edge hardware constraints (e.g., NPUs, thermal limits, memory management).
