Job Summary

Safely perform construction duties to support highway, utility, and grade crews and on-site plant operations. Locate buried utilities, shovel trenches for pipe installation, guide and connect pipes, cut and join pipe using tools and materials, and set up laser equipment for alignment. Maintain safety by fencing off areas, using barricades and cones, and monitoring for hazards. May operate heavy equipment and keep time-and-material records while assisting production as needed.

Key Responsibilities

•Operate equipment safely and efficiently within designed parameters.
•Locate utilities and buried lines prior to digging and prepare trenches for pipes.
•Guide pipes into place, attach trench boxes and pipes using chains/guide wires, and cut/connect pipes using tools, lubricants, and glue/grout.
•Set up and move laser level/tripod and pipe lasers; build couplings, connectors, and mechanical joints.
•Maintain job site safety and cleanliness by fencing off areas, setting barricades and safety cones, and performing clean-up and minor servicing/maintenance as needed.

Key Requirements

•High school diploma or GED preferred.
•1 year of experience working on excavation sites and experience laying water, sewer, and storm drain (preferred).
•Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write correspondences and memos.
•Ability to perform basic math (add, subtract, multiply, and divide) and apply common sense to follow detailed instructions.
•Ability to work well with others in a group or one-on-one setting; knowledge of inventory and order processing systems; uses a job-specific computer system for ticketing and a two-way radio for communications.
