Key Responsibilities

•Set the strategy and technical direction for the AI gateway and broader Group AI Platform, defining architecture, standards, and guardrails that scale bank-wide.
•Lead optimization of the AI gateway to improve performance, scalability, resilience and cost efficiency, enabling Generative and Agentic AI use cases across HSBC.
•Own end-to-end delivery from design through rollout and continuous improvement, ensuring low-latency performance and reliability.
•Establish and evolve engineering best practices across CI/CD, automated testing, and observability/monitoring for AI platform services.
•Partner across business lines and infrastructure teams to align priorities, integrate requirements and unblock delivery across regions and time zones; mentor and raise engineering standards.

Key Requirements

•Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline; 15+ years delivering enterprise software/platform solutions, including 5+ years in senior engineering leadership.
•Proven track record designing, building, and operating large-scale, low-latency, highly available platforms and shared services; API gateway/service gateway experience strongly preferred.
•Strong architecture expertise across distributed systems, microservices, cloud/container platforms, and performance engineering (capacity planning, tuning, benchmarking).
•Hands-on engineering capability with modern languages (e.g., Python and/or Java), plus robust CI/CD, automated testing and observability practices.
•Experience building secure-by-design platforms in regulated environments with attention to security, resilience, data protection, and auditability; proven ability to lead globally distributed teams.
