Job Summary

Lead and grow the planning consents service within AECOM’s Town Planning team, supporting major infrastructure and development projects across energy transition, rail, and water. Manage line leadership and mentorship, oversee submissions through the Development Consent Order (DCO) process, and provide strategic planning advice. Coordinate delivery with multi-disciplinary teams while ensuring quality assurance, health and safety, and supporting business growth through tenders and client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

•Manage and grow the planning consents service and provide line management and mentorship to junior team members.
•Lead major development applications, including the Development Consent Order (DCO) process.
•Offer strategic planning advice to clients and internal teams.
•Ensure projects are delivered on budget and within programme timelines while coordinating multi-disciplinary teams.
•Oversee deliverables for quality assurance and health and safety, and contribute to business development including tenders and client relationship nurturing.

Key Requirements

•Significant relevant experience leading planning consent applications for large infrastructure projects across a range of consenting regimes.
•Expert witness experience would be advantageous.
•Existing client and local authority relationships, with strong interpersonal and collaborative working skills.
•Demonstrated business development mindset, including work winning and developing relationships with existing and new clients.
•Degree in Town Planning (or related discipline) and membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or an equivalent professional body.
