Job Summary

Assembles, plants, and detonates industrial explosive charges to loosen earth and rock for removal. Perform pre-shift inspections, design shots with appropriate delays, keep detailed inventory and shot records, operate blasting equipment, and post and monitor the blast site until firing. Drive an explosive truck safely, follow MSHA and company rules, watch weather conditions, and oversee the blasting process and the blaster helpers.

Key Responsibilities

•Perform pre-shift inspection and design shots with proper delays, including depth and bench spacing.
•Keep records of explosive inventories and calculate shot parameters (distance, lbs/delay, power factors).
•Load and deck shots (including presplit loading), operate the sequential board, and post/attend the blast site until firing.
•Maintain the explosive truck in working order (including cleaning augers) and grease auger bearings.
•Oversee the blasting process and the activities of the blaster helpers; drive safely and follow MSHA and company rules.

Key Requirements

•Must be familiar with all aspects of blasting, including dos and don’ts.
•Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college/technical school, or 6 months to 1 year related experience/training.
•Ability to reach and interpret safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
•Ability to perform basic math (add, subtract, multiply, divide) and compute rates/ratios/percentages; interpret bar graphs.
•Must follow all MSHA and Mulzer rules and operate safely around highwall conditions.
