Job Summary

Undertake structured apprenticeship training in the Defence Marine Services deck department, working onboard assigned vessels and supporting safe, efficient delivery of maritime services. You’ll learn bridge watchkeeping duties, assist with vessel maintenance and operation of deck equipment/mooring and safety systems, maintain vessel accommodation standards, and complete the Able Seafarer (Deck) training record book while progressing toward your qualification.

Key Responsibilities

•Work as a deck department member onboard assigned vessels.
•Learn and perform bridge watchkeeping duties, maintaining a lookout during day and night operations.
•Support routine vessel maintenance and assist with operation of deck equipment, mooring systems, and safety equipment.
•Carry out housekeeping duties and help maintain high standards across vessel accommodation and shared areas.
•Maintain safety, security, and wellbeing of colleagues, the vessel, cargo, and the marine environment at all times.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: GBP 25,729.45

Key Requirements

•Be 18+ years old and have 4 GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Maths at grade C or above.
•Ability to obtain Security Clearance and meet UK citizenship requirements.
•Gain an ENG1 Unrestricted Medical Certificate, including eyesight standards.
•Genuine interest in developing a maritime career with a commitment to continuous learning and personal growth.
•Complete all apprenticeship training requirements and tasks within the Able Seafarer (Deck) Training Record Book.
