Key Responsibilities

  • •Build and evolve core Nova query engine infrastructure across query planning, columnar storage, encoding/compression, caching, and distributed compute.
  • •Design and implement new capabilities as Nova expands to support additional warehouse-imported data types.
  • •Drive cost and performance at scale, including compute/storage/network/memory optimizations while maintaining or improving latency and throughput.
  • •Improve reliability and operational excellence through identifying failure modes, implementing durable fixes, and enhancing detection/response and capacity planning.
  • •Lead multi-month technical initiatives, contribute to architectural direction via design docs and code reviews, and mentor engineers; participate in on-call incident response.

Key Requirements

  • •7+ years of experience in backend or infrastructure engineering with depth in distributed data systems.
  • •Hands-on experience building or extending analytical/OLAP systems such as query engines and columnar storage.
  • •Track record driving significant cloud cost optimization at scale (compute, storage, network).
  • •Strong CS fundamentals in distributed systems, algorithms, and concurrency/multi-threading with performance optimization.
  • •Production experience with modern cloud infrastructure and tools including AWS (S3, DynamoDB, EC2), Kafka, Redis/ElastiCache, Kubernetes, and Terraform, plus proficiency in Java, C++, or Python.
