Job Function: QA, Test & Release Engineering

Key Responsibilities

  • •Control lab instruments programmatically in Python (ideally using PyLabRobot/PyHamilton) rather than proprietary GUIs.
  • •Build and integrate work cells so multiple instruments operate together as unattended units.
  • •Bring new instruments online by reverse-engineering control protocols and writing drivers to expose them to the stack.
  • •Write software glue (drivers, integrations, small services) connecting hardware to the platform.
  • •Partner with biologists to turn assays into reliable automated workflows and keep 24/7 production running by diagnosing and fixing failures.

Key Requirements

  • •Write real Python with software structure others can maintain, including drivers, integrations, and services (not just scripts), and pick up TypeScript where needed.
  • •Reverse-engineer and automate lab instruments/workflows; hands-on experience with PyHamilton, PyLabRobot, Opentrons, or similar tooling is a strong plus.
  • •Have a maker/hacker attitude: you like taking systems apart, scripting instruments rather than using GUIs, and building what’s needed.
  • •Operate independently and self-start: diagnose what must be built without waiting for specs or vendor training.
  • •Debug across the stack when runs stall, reasoning across software, firmware, electronics, and mechanics to find and fix causes.
