Job Summary

Hands-on Materials R&D Technician supporting daily lab operations, material & process development, and failure investigations in SpaceX’s lab. You’ll set up, operate, and troubleshoot lab equipment, report data (UTS/YS/Modulus and thermal/imagining tests), and drive safety and 5S initiatives while collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

•Operate mechanical test frames (static or hydraulic) or characterization instruments (SDT, TGA, TMA, DMA, DSC, FTIR, SEM) and report core material data.
•Perform mechanical testing (tensile, fatigue, compression) on metals, polymers, or composites or conduct thermal/imagery characterization.
•Support maintenance and calibration needs of lab instrumentation.
•Summarize data and document results clearly; provide basic interpretation to requestors and flag off-nominal results for engineering review.
•Maintain safe, organized, and clean lab operations and champion larger-scale lab improvement initiatives (5S).

Pay and Benefits

Key Requirements

•High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
•5+ years of hands-on materials testing experience in a laboratory setting.

•Familiarity with ASTM standards and basic materials science concepts.
