•Lead initiatives within Elasticsearch to deliver an industry-leading search engine focused on speed and relevance.
•Contribute full-time to Elasticsearch by building search features and fixing bugs while improving code clarity.
•Work with a globally distributed team of engineers focused on Elasticsearch vector search capabilities.
•Drive improvements in Elasticsearch search relevance based on questions and instincts.
•Collaborate with community members via issues and pull requests, sometimes triaging and sometimes handling work directly.

Key Requirements

•Professional experience with search or vector databases, including HNSW, IVF, or similar algorithms and libraries at scale.
•Solid core Java skills and familiarity with Java data structures and concurrency constructs, including lambdas.
•High autonomy to take projects from technical design through delivery, coordinating with other engineers on components.
•Comfort collaborating and iterating via code, approach, and API feedback in a distributed/asynchronous setting.
•Familiarity with data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra, and understanding how/why they work.
