Key Responsibilities

  • •Create or recreate all types of costumes for live entertainment and work in accordance with organizational policies and laws.
  • •Translate designers’ ideas, concepts, and sketches into properly fitting and wearable costumes and garments.
  • •Create and supervise construction of costumes through completion, keeping work on schedule and meeting deadlines.
  • •Prepare mock-ups for designer and Director of Costumes consideration and approval, and establish construction methods for new and repaired garments.
  • •Prepare and delegate work to First Hands, Cutters, Operators, and Finishers, and coordinate Best Practices manual development.
Travel: Low travel

Key Requirements

  • •Strong knowledge and skills as a Tailor and Draper, with several years of experience in a high-volume costume shop.
  • •Ability to read, analyze, and follow written instructions.
  • •Knowledge of period clothing and period costume making, including basic understanding of theatrical terms and directions.
  • •Ability to run industrial sewing machines and a serger in the costume department.
  • •Artistic eye to recognize material value and meet approval requirements from the Costume Shop Manager and/or Director of Costumes.
